CONFERENCE ON DIVERSITY IN ENGINEERING
The deadline for the applications for the Conference on Diversity in Engineering has been extended to this Tuesday at 5:30pm! See previous announcement for details, and don’t forget to apply to this awesome conference!
GNCTR RAFFLE BASKET – MIDTERM HARVEST
Hey, GNCTR here, just checking in to see how everyone is doing. We know that midterms can be rough, tough and just down right not fun, so we’re bringing some love and support to all you hard working Gryphs. GOLDEN GEARS – TRICK OR EAT
Trick or Eat is an annual, student-led, national event dedicated to helping the 40% of Canadian post-secondary students who experience food insecurity. On Halloween night (October 31st), instead of candy, students from UofG will go door to door to collect food for the Campus Food Bank. You can participate by joining our team ‘Guelph Engineering Golden Gears’ by following this link https://secure.e2rm.com/registrant/TeamFundraisingPage.aspx?teamID=834235&langPref=en-CA#&panel1-3 and clicking ‘Join the Team’! GUELPH ENGINEERING COMPETITION ALERT
The Guelph Engineering Competition (GEC) is set to take place on Saturday, November 3rd! GEC will consist of 4 competitions: Junior Design, Senior Design, Consulting Engineering and Re-Engineering. Junior Design is ONLY open to 1st and 2nd year students, Senior Design is open to Students in 3rd, 4th and 5th Years. The Consulting and Re-Engineering Competitions are open to students enrolled in all years. The 1st Place Winners from each competition, will be sent to represent The University of Guelph at the Ontario Engineering Competition. Registration fees of $20 per group (3 to 4 members) need to be paid at the time of registration! Don’t have a team? Don’t worry! Individual registrations will be accepted and we will create teams! Registration will begin Thursday October 18, 2018 at the EngSoc Office and will continue till Wednesday October 31, 2018. Spots are limited! So register as soon as possible!

Have questions about obtaining your P.Eng? A PEO representative will be hosting an informational session on becoming a licensed engineer! Plus free pizza! Stay tuned for more details
You may have set the bar up for midterms but now it’s time to go bar down with the ENGG soccer tournament!
It will be held November 17th from 5-9 pm in the field house. You can sign up as a team or as a free agent for $5 each at the EngSoc office.
TEETER-TOTTER-A-THON – RESULTS
We would like to send out a huge thank you to everyone who either teeter-tottered or donated to Marianne’s Place last week during our teeter-totter-a-thon, which raised $1120 for the women’s crisis centre. WEEKLY LEARNING – CLIMATE CHANGE AND DEVELOPMENT– THURSDAY OCTOBER 18TH 5:30PM, THRN 1365
Climate change is one of the most complex challenges of our century. No country is immune, but unfortunately, developing countries are going to feel the largest impact. Join us to discuss the root causes of this inequality and how we can help to build a ‘Climate Smart’ world to mitigate it.
CHAIR FOR ONTARIO ENGINEERING COMPETITION
The Engineering society is trying to place a bid for the Ontario Engineering Competition that will be happening in January of 2020. In order to place a bid, we need to have potential chairs to help organize this event.
What are the benefits with organizing OEC 2020?
- Very high potential of landing a job after, as you will be working closely with sponsors
- Shows employers you can do work on something other than school
- Gain a lot of contacts in the industry
- Have a lot of fun with your organizing committee!
Who should apply to become a chair?
- Anyone who isn’t graduating this year!
