Hello Engineers. Welcome to the spookiest month of the year. October is upon us, which means thanksgiving, Halloween and the dread midterms. Here are your announcements for week 4.
We are excited to announce that CDE is taking place at Ryerson University this year located in Toronto, Ontario! Attached, please find the Pre-Delegate Package. This package tells students what the Conference on Diversity in Engineering is all about! Please use the information in this package to advertise CDE using all social media platforms.
Some important details about the conference:
The conference dates are November 9th – 12th, 2018.
There is an option for delegates to arrive on Thursday November 8th. Please check page 7 of the package for more information on the fees associated with this.
On October 6th 2018, I will be sending out the Delegate Registration form. It will be your responsibility to pick delegates from your school and this form is for our team to know more about them!
The registration form will only be out from October 6th – October 14th 2018.
Here is a summary of the important dates to keep in mind:
October 6th 2018: Registration begins (form will be emailed out)
October 14th 2018 at 11:59PM EST: Send in your applications to Guelph Eng soc.
If you ordered coveralls as part of an O’Week kit they will be available for pickup at the EngSoc office on Wednesday. Please bring ID. If you did not order coveralls during O’Week and would like to purchase a pair you may do so as well.
COCRECO – Textbook Rental Service
Are you in 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th Year deciding if you need to invest in that expensive textbook? HOLD ON! The CoCreCo Textbook Rental Service may have the textbook that you are looking for at a fraction for the cost! Come and have a look at the books that we have to offer during our office hours!

ENGINEERS WITHOUT BORDERS WEEKLY MEETING – Hello2030
What do you want the future to look like in the year 2030? If your vision includes reduced inequilites, climate action, sustainable development, or just generally having the world be a better place, come to our meeting and start saying “Hello!” to the future. Join us on Thursday October 4th where we will be discussing this years campaign, Hello2030, a nation-wide show of solidarity amongst Canadians, in support of our country the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
ENGIQUEERS COMING OUT DAY
EngiQueers is hosting an event for National Coming Day! Join us on October 11th, at 7:30pm in the Peter Clark Hall where we’ll have five panelists from a variety of generations and disciplines sharing their stories and experiences. The event is open to everyone and free food is included!
George Vari Innovation Conference
George Vari Innovation Conference (GVIC) is designed to give the innovators of today an opportunity to become the leaders of tomorrow. The vision behind the conference is to allow students to showcase their projects, ideas and passion for innovation.
As delegates, you will have the opportunity to listen to top executives and be able to live the experience of professional workshops. In addition, the conference will consist of talks from celebrity keynote speakers, exclusive panel talks with special guests, case competition, networking session for students, motivating workshops, and lastly, a spectacular gala to end off the night!
This year’s conference will be held at Toronto Marriott Bloor Yorkville Hotel, 4 DAYS and 3 NIGHTS, all meals included.

The Engineering Society is running its annual Teeter-Totter-a-Thon for Marianne’s Place (Guelph Centre for Women in Crisis)! We will be running a teeter-totter for 24 hours straight! It will be held from 12:00pm Wednesday October 17th till 12:00pm Thursday October 18th in Branion Plaza. Please stop by to show your support for the cause and take a turn on the giant teeter-totter – everybody is welcome! We will be accepting donations all day to support Marianne’s Place. JUNIOR FELLOWSHIP APPLICATIONS
Junior Fellowship applications are now open! The JF Program is a 4 month volunteer placement at an EWB venture in Africa! All students returning to university in September are encouraged to apply.
