If you have a question that is not answered on this page, email EngSoc and they'll get back to you as soon as possible.

A more expanded and informative FAQ is in the works!

First Year - Frosh Week

Q. Which Engineering Orientation week events should I go to?
All of them! Engineering Frosh Week events are organized so that you have a team and you compete in events as such.

Q. Should I go to all the Orientation week events I'm interested in, or just the Engineering ones?
Go to as many as possible, but of course save room for the Engineering events. Other O-week events help you to get to know your residence buddies, whom you'll live with all year (and perhaps longer) so they're important too.

Q. What is the history of The Stick/the Soul Pole? Why should I feel so honoured to lick it/get swatted in the ass by it?
Learn soon will you, if know you do not...

Q. Why should I learn the words to the great Engineering ballads? Where can I find the lyrics(EngSocDocs)? (Godiva's Song, the Orgy song, etc.)
These songs are traditional to engineering, and are sung at many events.

First Years - Academic

Q. Should I be worried about buying textbooks right now?

NO - Engsoc runs a used book sale where you can get most, if not all, of your textbooks cheaper than at the bookstore. Look for it the second week of classes, and if you can't find what you need there the bookstore can be your second option.

About EngSoc

Q. What does the Engineering Society do for me? The Engineering Society offers many services to the undergraduate Engineering population. We run the printers in the labs, social events, charity fundraisers, we sell merchandise/everyday items from the office, offer opportunities to get involved in different clubs at Guelph, or with provincial and national partners. There is also a lot more, but this FAQ isn't done yet...

Q. What is our relationship to CPES?

Currently we are registered as a club under CPES.

Q. How is EngSoc funded?

Engsoc receives a large portion of the students fees paid to CPES by Engineering undergraduate students back.

Q. What other organizations are we a member of?

The Guelph Engineering Society is officially a member school of the provincial and national student Engineering organizations, the Engineering Student Societies' Council of Ontario (ESSCO) and the Canadian Federation of Engineering Students (CFES). Guelph EngSoc is also partners with the PEO, CCPE, and OSPE (this FAQ is not complete yet).

Q. What are conferences and how can I get involved?

Conferences are an opportunity to get involved with other Engineering schools in Ontario and Canada and learn from them and their experiences. For more info on conferences contact VP External or check out www.essco.ca and www.cfes.ca.

Q. What is SRM?

SRM stands for Student Risk Management. It's the group that enforces the University of Guelph's insurance policies by approving all events that EngSoc (and other clubs) run.
