What does Guelph Engineering mean to you? In one word, AWESOME! I love that you can walk around THRN, and always find someone to talk to. The small school feel is key.
What are you most looking forward to in the Engineering building expansion? A new eng soc office...

It has been stated by many that "Mark Walker has the body of Hercules, and the voice of an angle. A man that all men want to be, and women want to be with." I assume that they are talking about me.

But seriously, I am a fourth year Biological Engineering Student, and I am really looking forward to the next year of Guelph Engineering Society. When I'm not at school, I love to be at the cottage, doing pretty much anything. Wakeboarding, swimming, canoeing, are all options. In the winter, I like to get out snowboarding as much as I can. I like to think I am a pretty friendly and approachable dude, so if you have any questions or suggestions, send me an email and let me know!

What does Guelph Engineering mean to you? It's where everybody knows your name. Literally. It's an incredibly friendly environment that is full of great people and good times! Sometimes we do some work, too.
What are you most looking forward to in the Engineering building expansion? More study space and the rooftop lab!

I would drape myself in velvet if it were socially acceptable.
Haha, hey guys! I'm Michelle and I'm your VP External for 2010-2011. Basically that means I'm responsible for representing our school to all of the external organizations that we are involved with such as PEO, ESSCO and CFES. If you have any questions about the organizations we're involved in or if you're interested in getting more involved with them, PLEASE feel free to come up and ask me anything anytime! I'm quite approachable and you can usually find me hanging around THRN. And anyone that knew my Seinfeld quote - let's be friends.

If you were to be an unlikely superhero, what would be your superhero name and what would be your power?
Subpar Superman: slower then a speeding bullet, as powerful as a stopped locomotive, can leap tall houses through alot of bounds, pullys and rope. Can shoot laser pointers from eyes, lift up to 80lbs above his head but only once in a few days. His only weakness sharp objects, fast moving objects, and the icey sting of vaccination needles (they hurt and you know it).
Favourite past time?: I am pretty sure that my favourite past time is thinking. I will often just spend an hour of my day lost in my thoughts of all things from how people and why people work to how and why the universe works. Although another close contender is watching storms as the blow through.

Like anyone theres alot to me but I suppose the biggest things one will notice is that I have an upbeat attitude no matter what the situation. I am generally smiling and enjoy helping others. I also enjoy hanging out with people oh and I am all about innertube waterpolo. I suppose if you were looking for me some physical characteristics will help; I am about 5'11, about 160-170lbs with curly light brown hair. My favourite colour is deep green, my favourite flower is the tulip, I am also on the Gryphon FSAE Race team, and my favourite tv show is South Park. As VP Internal I handle big internal events like Lab Fund (which you should all go to since you pay into it) and AGM and other things as well. Thats all from me for now, If you want to know more come find me, I am usually in the lounge or office.

Maddie Craig

VP Social  |  Maddie Craig

vpsocial@guelphengsoc.com

Program: Environmental Engineering
Graduation Year: 2012
What does Guelph Engineering mean to you? To me, Guelph Engineering means a school year filled with corn roast, frosh week, intramurals, banquet, teeter-totter, pie throw, blue mohawks, youtube, big buddies, brunny, conferences like fyic, coveralls and a little bit of homework.
What are you most looking forward to in the Engineering building expansion? I'm looking forward to lots of work space so that my design group can meet in private without other groups overhearing our ideas! but seriously, new labs will be cool too.

I wasn't like every other kid who dreamed about being an astronaut. I was more interested in what bark was made out of on a tree. Richard Gere is a real hero of mine. Sting. Sting is another hero. The music that he's making - I don't really listen to it, but the fact that he's making it...I respect that. Do I know what product I'm selling? No! Do I know what I'm doing today? No! But I'm here, and I'm going to give it my best shot.

What does Guelph Engineering mean to you? It means that we're a bunch of totally awesome people that like the colour blue, mohawks and having a crazy good time hanging out together.
What are you most looking forward to in the Engineering building expansion? I'm really looking forward to the small design rooms that we will now have, and to the "Engineer's Highway" so we can zip from one end of the building to the other really easily. And by zip, I mean have rolley-chair races in the middle of the night while taking a break from writing reports.

Hey folks, I'm Kallie and I'll be you VP Finance for 2010-2011. I take care of all EngSoc's money and make sure we can keep on running cheap & awesome events. This is my third year on council and I'm really looking forward to it! You can usually find me hanging around THRN in one of the computer labs or the lounge, so if you've got any questions, ask away. In any spare time I manage to find I like hanging out with awesome people and enjoying some tasty beverages. I also really enjoy getting outside and taking photos, or just sitting around with a nice hot cup of tea and listening to music.

What does Guelph Engineering mean to you? It means that we have the best looking Engineering students in the country.
What are you most looking forward to in the Engineering building expansion? The new atrium and glass computer lab. I found a new tanning spot.

I like to be called vdo 'vee-doh' because I've met too many Victors in my life. I have been on council for over two years and wanted to branch out into something different than what I've done before, VP Academic and Publications. I'm in charge of keeping this website up to date with awesome stuff. This job no longer requires the cleaning of the microwave but I would have been really good at that since I like cleaning. I also like to take pictures so those will be up in our Flickr gallery which is on the sidebar. I hope to revamp the website which will be a challenge for me but shouldn't be bad since I spend all my time on the Internets anyways. I'm very approachable and don't mind a chat so you'll find me in THRN even though I'll be commuting to school everyday from Mississauga.

What does Guelph Engineering mean to you? It means unreal times, with unreal friends.
What are you most looking forward to in the Engineering building expansion? Well the Hallway Paper Ball Soccer League facilities construction is a little behind schedule. You know how it is trying to get contractors to show up on time and getting permits in order. However the HPBSL will not be affected due to these mere inconveniences. Alternate locations are under discussion for the season first game. The committee and I are in great anticipation to host another stupendous year of football. Last year was a strong and very inspirational year for the club. We hope to continue this progression and move forward to becoming the most influential league in the sporting industry.

HPBSL…taking indoor paper ball soccer to whole notha’ level…

Hi my names Kyle, and I’m super pumped about school this year. Craig and I have some solid ideas and events that you should definitely participate in. If you are wondering why Craig and I as Athletic coordinators this year, its simple…Cause…

We like sports and we don’t care who knows
From shooting hoops, to the Super Bowl.
We like sports and we don’t care who knows
Football Football Football. Tennis. Hockey. Golf.

What does Guelph Engineering mean to you? To me, Guelph Engineering means working hard and loving what your doing. Its a mix between gaining invaluable skills, and overcoming hardships, while still finding time to have fun at the engineering events and making friends that you'll never forget. The engineers, by far have the most spirit out of any other faculty at Guelph University. Every year I look forward to getting my frosh week mohawk and rallying excitement amongst my peers and new students. Although the program lasts 4 short years, the memories will last a lifetime and the spirit will go on forever.
What are you most looking forward to in the Engineering building expansion? I'm looking forward to the new labs and new places to study. I hope its an aggie-free zone...

Hey Everyone, Me & my partner in crime, Kyle Lockwood will be athletic coordinators this year. I like playing all kinds of sports and hanging out with all my friends in the engineering building. I love joking around and acting as the comic relief in an otherwise serious situation. Before I came to university, I wasn't sure I wanted to be an engineer. I took a leap of faith and ended up having the time of my life. Come find me in THRN if you're looking for an extra player in pick up or if you're just looking to hang out after class.

What does Guelph Engineering mean to you? I'm not sure I could describe what it means to me without being really cheesy or cliche. Or is it cheesy and cliche to say that as well?
What are you most looking forward to in the Engineering building expansion? The new mini-design rooms, student spaces, and labs for research.

Going into my final year finally. If you spend any time in THRN or on campus over the semester you will no doubt see me around as I do like to keep myself busy with everything from school, to intramurals (consider joining the engineering soccer and waterpolo teams!), rock-climbing, and even napping on the rare occasion. I've already done this position once so I'm apparently crazy for doing it again. "Engineers who can write and communicate? No way," you might say, but alas, it is true.

What does Guelph Engineering mean to you? Guelph engineering will always hold a special place in my heart as the place that I spent ages 18 to 27.
What are you most looking forward to in the Engineering building expansion? It being done so I don't have to endure the odour of sharing the computer lab with CIS students.

Ryan Vadori was a mesmeric figure of the Guelph Engineers, a rebel poet and godhead in snakeskin and leather. He lived fast, and died young. In his prime, writers and critics went nuts trying to do his weird mojo some measure of justice. (One called him "an angel in grace and a dog in heat.") Ryan Vadori tried to set the night on fire. As a lead writer for OSNAP, he was an acid evangelist on a suicide mission to deprogram his generation from what he saw as a prisonlike conformity to social and sexual norms. He was a seer, an adept, a bard, a drunk, a freedom setter. Ryan styled his writing team "erotic politicians," and relentlessly urged their huge audience to break on through the doors of perception, to seek a higher, more aware consciousness. OSNAP captured the unrest and the menace that hung in the air of the late sixties like tear gas, and did it with hypnotic cool.

Is everybody in?
The ceremony is about to begin.
(As taken and reworked from a biography of the late Jim Morrison)

What does Guelph Engineering mean to you?
Guelph:[gwělf]
-noun
A city of southern Ontario, Canada, west of Toronto. It is an industrial center in a farming area. Two dollar drinks on the Fridays and Saturdays, one dollar drinks on Thursdays, home of the infamous Doogies. Low crime rate, high orgy rate Population: 115,000.

en·gi·neer·ing:[en-juh-neer-ing]
–noun
1. the art or science of making practical application of the knowledge of pure sciences, as physics or chemistry, as in the construction of engines, bridges, buildings, mines, ships, and chemical plants. 2. the action, work, or profession of an engineer. 3. skillful or artful contrivance; maneuvering.

Thus;

Guelph Engineering: [lej-uhn-der-ee]
-prefix to (is awesome, bad-ass, just ridiculous)
A place where the art or science of making practical applications of cheap drinks as to alleviate ones current state of mind, to induce the ability to skillfully or artfully maneuver ones self into an orgy. Population: (1-10) depending on the size of the bed.

What are you most looking forward to in the Engineering building expansion? They told me there's going to be a big room with white walls that are soft and it's just for me. I am very excited!

The details of my life are quite inconsequential... very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving miner from Northern Malamute with low grades in math and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a sixteen year old Dutch harlot who worked in a house of ill repute. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the Bernoulli Equation. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Scandinavia, lessons on sub-quantum particle theories. In the spring we'd make dual wave amplifiers. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with 1st year chemistry text books- pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a druid named Godiva ritualistically shaved my *bleep*. There really is nothing like a shorn *bleep*... it's breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it.

What does Guelph Engineering mean to you? You know everyone and everyone knows you including the profs and other staff members. There's corn roast, conferences, fundraisers and fun. There is always something to do here in Guelph Engineering.
What are you most looking forward to in the Engineering building expansion? Coffee!!! When working with my group I will no longer have to bundle up just to get coffee. I'm sure I'll appreciate the labs and study spaces too.

As a kid I actually had my sights set on being a doctor. So, naturally, when I graduated from high school I was all set to attend Guelph's Biomedical program. After realizing the MCATs were an 8 hour test (yuck...can I take a nap instead) I quickly changed my mind. Doctor Schmoctor; now that I'm in engineering I couldn't be more happy. Outside of school I'm a long distance runner. So when I'm not on campus studying, I can usually be found running along the outskirts of campus training for whatever upcoming race I have. Aside from my lame life story I'm very excited for this year and I can't wait to meet everyone at the various events.

What are you most looking forward to in the Engineering building expansion? Temperature control.

This is my first year on council and I'll be your secretary for the 2010-2011 year. You can usually spot me kicking it at the ranch or around campus. I look forward to seeing you all at this year's events!

What does Guelph Engineering mean to you? Guelph Engineering is about having a good time and hanging out with friends. We may have mohawks and joke around sometimes, but we get down to it, we can do some serious engineering work too. Guelph Engineering is all about finding the balance between having fun and getting it done.
What are you most looking forward to in the Engineering building expansion? Having some more space on campus for us engineering students to call our own.

Hey everyone, my name is Cody and I'm from Gravenhurst. In case you were wondering, there is no area north of Toronto called "The Muskokas" - the area I from is the one and only Muskoka. In my spare time, I like to do pretty much anything involves water (frozen or liquid) including swimming, fishing, sailing, wakeboarding, snowboarding and water skiing. I have a hard time paying attention in class, so don't sit beside me if you don't want to get distracted. When it comes down to doing work though, I'm always ready to get things done!

What does Guelph Engineering mean to you? A place to learn and discover engineering with a fantastic teaching and support staff.
What are you most looking forward to in the Engineering building expansion? More usable space that allows the engineering students to expand their knowledge.

Aside from school I have two other great loves, skiing and traveling. During the holidays you can usually find me doing one or the other or even both! I choose Guelph because of the small class sizes and the great teaching staff, if I have one word of advice, talk to your professors!

Lauren Patrick

What does Guelph Engineering mean to you? Guelph Engineering means that I will be able to learn the skills, and even practice them through co-op, to work in the field of rehabilitation engineering. I am planning to design insanely useful and futuristic-looking equipment to help those with disabilities live full lives with some super-cool assistance! On a more serious note, being a part of Guelph Engineering means that I get to brag about how awesome our School of Engineering is to a “captive” (as in captured?) audience . . . no one can escape my Guelph Engineering wrath!
What are you most looking forward to in the Engineering building expansion? I am most looking forward to the fact that there will actually be windows in some of the classrooms once the building is done. After spending all of first year sitting longingly in the front windows on Thornbrough between classes, wishing that some of my classrooms had actual windows, my dream is finally coming true! I will finally be able to obtain some of the necessary Vitamin D without taking tablets. Pastiness will finally be taking a back seat to a pale, healthy glow!

Hey you . . . and you . . . and you! My name is Lauren and I will be one of your Second-Year Representatives for this year. Chances are you will see me around Thornbrough pretty much all the time, plus I will be making announcements to our lovely Second-Years. I am pretty much in love with engineering, so I am hoping to help make your year epic! So, a bit about me. I have strange obsessions with Christmas lights, feta cheese and Degrassi. Not all together . . . well, maybe sometimes. I went to FYIC and ESSCO AGM last year and it was amazing! Looking forward to an insane year!
